TEF IRN results
After taking the TEF IRN, when do you receive your results, how do you read your score and how long does the certificate remain valid? We explain everything.
When do you receive your results?
At MYSTORY, your results are given to you within 1 to 10 working days of the exam. The official certificate, issued by the CCI Paris Île-de-France, then reaches you within 2 to 3 weeks. This is the document that counts for your application at the prefecture.
How to read your score
The TEF IRN gives a score for each of the 4 papers, on a scale that corresponds to the CEFR levels: A2 from 200 to 299 points, B1 from 300 to 399, B2 from 400 to 499. A level is validated when the required score is reached in 3 papers out of 4, with a tolerance on the fourth (167 for A2, 267 for B1, 367 for B2). The level to reach depends on your application: A2 for the multi-year residence permit, B1 for the resident card, B2 for naturalisation.
Certificate validity
The TEF IRN certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of the exam. It is therefore advisable to plan ahead: between enrolling on a training course, taking the exam and submitting your application, several weeks may pass.
What to do after your results?
If you have reached the required level, you can attach the certificate to your prefecture application along with, where applicable, your civic exam certificate. If the level has not been reached, you can sit the TEF IRN again after further preparation.
