Does MYSTORY offer a training course for the civic exam?

Accepted Answer

No. Civic training (CIR, republican integration contract) is provided exclusively by the OFII (Office français de l’immigration et de l’intégration). MYSTORY is an approved exam centre: we welcome you to take the exam, but we do not deliver the civic training itself, and we do not sell any preparation course for the civic exam. To practise, everything you need is published by the Ministry of the Interior: the official lists of knowledge questions for the CSP and CR categories and the topic sheets. For the NAT category, it is the Livret du citoyen.

Is the civic exam compulsory in 2026?

Yes, since 1 January 2026 the civic exam has been compulsory to obtain a multi-year residence permit (CSP), a 10-year resident card (CR) or French naturalisation (NAT). It replaces the former assimilation interview with a standardised 40-question multiple-choice test on a digital platform.

What is the difference between the CSP, CR and NAT categories?

The three categories correspond to different applications: CSP for the multi-year residence permit (level A2), CR for the 10-year resident card (level B1), NAT for French naturalisation (level B2). The format is identical, 40 multiple-choice questions in 45 min with a pass mark of 32/40, but the difficulty and the questions vary by category. The NAT questions are taken from the Livret du citoyen.

Do I have to take the civic exam if I am over 65?

It depends on your application. For the 10-year resident card and the permanent resident card, the official information states that people over 65 are not concerned, neither by the language requirement nor by the civic exam. For French nationality, however, the order of 30 December 2025 does not include age among the grounds for exemption: its only ground is disability or chronic illness, with a medical certificate. What is the format and the minimum mark to pass?

The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions (28 knowledge questions + 12 situational questions), to be taken in 45 minutes maximum on a digital platform. You need at least 32 correct answers out of 40, i.e. 80%, to pass.

The civic exam covers 5 official topics: 1) Principles and values of the Republic; 2) Institutional and political system; 3) Rights and duties; 4) History, geography and culture; 5) Living in French society.

Where can I take the civic exam?

Accepted Answer

MYSTORY is an approved exam centre in Rosny-sous-Bois (93), open Monday to Saturday. You can come and take your civic exam there with an exam notice, without having followed our TEF IRN training course. The exam takes place on a digital platform.

What happens if I fail?

Accepted Answer

If you score less than 32/40, you can retake the exam, observing a waiting period of 48 hours between two sittings. There is no limit on the number of attempts. We can easily re-register you for a new session at our exam centre in Rosny-sous-Bois.

Question 9

What should I bring on the day of the civic exam?

Accepted Answer

Your exam notice and a valid identity document with a photo. A receipt or a proof of submission is not an identity document. Arrive fifteen minutes before the start of the exam: a photograph is taken on site and included on your certificate.

Does the pass certificate have a period of validity?

Accepted Answer

No. The Ministry of the Interior states it explicitly: the civic exam pass certificate has no period of validity. This is an important difference from the TEF IRN French level certificate, which is only valid for two years; so it is that one, not the civic exam, that sets the timetable for your application.

Can the exam be taken in a language other than French?

Accepted Answer

No. The Ministry of the Interior describes it as “an exam of 40 questions in French in the form of multiple-choice questions”. No translation, no dictionary and no interpreter are allowed during the exam. This is one of the reasons why the language level required for your application (A2, B1 or B2) also matters for the civic exam.

How many times can you take the civic exam?

As many times as necessary: the Ministry of the Interior states that it can be taken at any time and as many times as needed. The only limit set by the order of 10 October 2025 is a two-year ban from sitting it in the event of established fraud. Each sitting is a separate registration, to be paid for, and the 48-hour waiting period applies between two attempts.

How do I prepare for the civic exam?

Three official resources, published by the Ministry of the Interior: the official lists of knowledge questions for the CSP and CR categories, the topic sheets, and the Livret du citoyen for the NAT category. Note: the ministry does not publish a list of questions for the NAT category; the Livret du citoyen takes its place, with the 5 topics of the syllabus, common to all three categories. Civic training itself (CIR) is provided by the OFII.

How much does it cost to take the exam at MYSTORY?

The exam on its own costs 80 €. Three packs combine the TEF IRN, the civic exam and the TEF IRN practice platforms: 220 € (TEF IRN + PasseTonTEF), 250 € (TEF IRN + PrepMyFuture) and 265 € (TEF IRN + civic exam). All are paid directly, with no training hours.

I have a disability: are adjustments available?

Yes, the order of 10 October 2025 expressly provides for adjustments for candidates with disabilities, and a medical certificate can also lead to an exemption when assessment is impossible. How do I cancel or postpone my civic exam session?

In writing, to contact@mystoryformation.fr. A refund is possible up to 7 working days before the session date; after that deadline, or if you are absent on the day of the exam, the registration remains payable. A postponement, on the other hand, is only granted on valid supporting evidence accepted by the CCI Paris Île-de-France: the decision belongs to the certifying body, we only pass the request on.
